My little girl is obsessed with braids. She has been for almost a year now, since her Aunt Elizabeth braided her hair for the first time. She begs for braids. She sees them in pictures, and on other girls and admires them. Unfortunately, her mother is not the best at braiding. Fortunately, my daughter has the patience of Job when it comes to braids. She will sit there, not moving, not turning her head, in whatever position I place her, for infinite amounts of time as I struggle to braid her curly locks. The other day our conversation went like this:
"I am really trying but I am just not very good at this, Honey."
"But you will get better, Mommy. You are doing better!"
She encourages me every time I attempt braids, and reminds me that "you are getting better and better at braids! You aren't as good as Aunt Elizabeth, but you're getting better!"
I have to appreciate her patience, enthusiasm, and appreciation of my efforts to do such a simple task for her. What a reminder to keep things in perspective.
