Catching Up and Victoza

It's been forever since I posted anything on here!  Wow!
I will quickly recap the past six months: our Youngest turned One, our Eldest turned four, we have been busy learning anatomy, writing, counting, addition, drawing, building, Jesus' Life and Tae Kwon Do (eldest), and standing, stepping, eating, signing, singing, first words, colors, and Bible basics (youngest).
It has been a happy five months!

One thing that has recently changed for me, which I would like to record here is Victoza.  My youngest finally weaned herself just after her birthday, which was perfect timing since my endocrinology appointment was shortly thereafter, and I wanted to start Victoza.  Most Type 1's are super thin. In fact, my entire life, I have known ONE other Type 1 who had to count calories.  Now mind you, I am not 'heavy', and I am finally comfortable with my post-babies weight, but I despise being a slave to hunger.  I detest having to worry about everything I eat (in addition to the constant awareness of carbs) because I might gain everything back if I have to take more insulin.  In fact, I was eating 1.5 meals a day with 1 tiny snack for about 3 months and I only lost 3 pounds. I am so close to my goal weight, but the only way to get there is to starve myself, on top of the exercise and carb-counting that I already do.  I was STARVING.  For two weeks I ate normally- breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, still monitoring my carb intake, and not eating high fat.  I just ate healthily, and guess what- I gained 5 POUNDS!!!  That is unacceptable.  I told my endo and she said, "Let's do Victoza." It was something that had been mentioned to me 2 years ago, and it was finally time!  I was up for it.  One tiny injection every morning....yep.  That's fine.
I have been on Victoza for a week tomorrow.  In that week I took 0.3 units once a day, to get me gradually on the medication.  Starting today I took 0.6 units.  I have no side effects- no nausea or anything.  I didn't notice anything the first two days, but day three -  I just wasn't hungry.  I realized that I hadn't eaten anything until 1 pm, and the hunger wasn't nagging at me!  I was comfortable.  My blood glucose numbers were very stable, and I wasn't having extreme highs or lows.  So far so good.  Today I weighed myself- I have lost three pounds, without feeling like a slave to food or starvation!

I will keep you posted on my progress.  The overall goal is to reduce my a1c, which is 7.6, and to maintain my goal weight.  So far, Victoza has an A+!!!
